Tired of poor picture quality? High definition TV will revolutionise your viewing

The world of media entertainment has grown exponentially in our lifetimes. My grandmother remembers her first grainy black and white small TV. People were still riding in horse drawn buggies and writing regularly with fountain pens when she was born. Now we drive cars and write with mechanical pencils and space pens. My parents can remember getting their first colour sets as kids. My children, however, can not even recall a world without the laptop and internet and ball point pens. You can see from this progression just how much the world has changed in less than a century. The new technologies available to us today have not sprung up over night however. A lot of hard work has gone into developing the technologies available to us today, whether that’s high tech entertainment systems or roller ball pens. HD TV was first introduced in 1936 when inventors began running trials. For its time it was a huge leap, but compared to today’s standards the technology seems shabby. Colour broadcasts began in 1953. However, the first regular high definition broadcasts began in the United States in 1999, and did not begin in Europe until 2004. You must have media broadcast in this format to reap the benefits of this new technology, so having supporting broadcasting is essential. It’s like having a fountain pen without any ink; it won’t do you much good. Now there are a plethora of channels being broadcast in this format so there has never been a better time to invest in and embrace this new technology.

Functioning with your existing equipment

Although there are a couple of additional products you may want to buy in order to fully enjoy this new technology, it is really fairly simple. Just jot down a few notes with your ball point pen as you read along. You may want or need to purchase an HDMI (high definition media interface). This replaces that unsightly jumble of wires streaming from the back of your entertainment system with one cable capable of carrying five gigabytes of bandwidth per second (that’s a lot). Like the difference between a roller ball pen and a fountain pen. This cable delivers a digital signal capable of carrying video and up to eight different digital audio channels. Not only does it streamline your entertainment system but it also prepares you with technology capable of adapting to future advancements, as the five gigabytes is more than you actually need now. Don’t worry about your DVD player becoming obsolete either. You can still play high definition or standard definition DVDs through your regular player. Many video games come in high resolution format now too and can be viewed in this format with any newer gaming system. Are you still taking notes with your pen? Your kids will appreciate it. If you already have a large pre-existing DVD collection and you would like to view your favourite movies in this higher resolution you may want to consider an upscaling DVD player. This device changes your old standard definition DVDs into high definition format allowing you to fully enjoy them with all the quality available.

Which service provider to choose?

When you sit down to write a letter the old fashioned way, you have a choice of implements at hand. You can use a charcoal pencil, a mechanical pencil, a ball pen, a roller ball pen, a fountain pen or even a space pen capable of writing in a space shuttle (although chances are you won’t have the opportunity to test that capability). Similarly, you have a plethora of choices when it comes to high definition TV products and viewing services. Even if you have purchased the equipment, you need the service to go with it in order to get the benefits of this new technology. There are many different providers of this service. Just as there are many different pens and pencils you can choose from when writing. In many countries you can get this programming over the air through your average antenna. You can also purchase it through your existing cable service, or another cable service provider, and also through satellite based companies, ADSL, or various video gaming systems such as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Still taking notes? Just be sure not to let your kids go duelling bad guys on screen with their pens and knocking the TV over once you get it. There are so many different products and services from TiVo to the DVD recorder it can seem overwhelming to know what is what. Doing additional research online or going in and speaking with a sales representative can help you figure out which products and services are best for you.

Why bigger is better...

I’ll give you the low down on size, because I wouldn’t want you to think that the sales representative is just fishing for a big commission when he or she tells you that bigger is better. Before you sign the dotted line on a contract with your roller ball pen make sure you do your homework though. This service provides picture quality that is two to five times sharper than standard definition. This is accomplished because there is more visual data being transmitted per square inch. This is what enables the large picture to be so clear when you view a movie in the theatre. This is also why a big TV allows you to truly see the enhanced quality you are paying for. Has your pen run out of ink yet? If you are watching on a smaller set the benefit is lost because you are not capable of viewing the higher resolution images in all their glory. This is not to say you may not want to purchase a smaller set as well for the kitchen or bathroom since the difference in price is less than a years’ supply of pens. You need an LCD TV, otherwise known as a flat screen, in order to view programs in this format. Not only do these sets have the benefit of higher resolution but they also are generally more attractive. It’s like the difference between a beautiful fountain pen and a ball point pen. I will leave it up to you to choose the right one.
