To get more from your DS the R4 is a good item to consider.

There are so many different portable gaming systems and associated products and games to choose from these days on the market.  It can be overwhelming.  If you thought that going to the office supply shop to buy a pen and being bombarded by the many choices between fountain pen, roller pen, ball point pen, mechanical pencil and even space pens was difficult, try walking into an electronics shop.  If you have already purchased a dual screen portable hand held gaming system, or are considering buying one you may want to consider the additional purchase of an R4 adaptor.  This device greatly increases the capacities and uses of DS systems.  Suddenly, not only can you play various video games but you can also browse the web, watch movies, view photos and images, view text, listen to music and maintain a calendar and organiser.  That is a whole lot of additional functions for a very reasonable cost.

You can justify owning your own DS when it has all these additional functions.  It turns a toy for kids into a functional and fun tool for adults.  It is like the difference between writing with a mechanical pencil, or with a fountain pen with multiple ink colours.  With the R4, your portable gaming system becomes like a small and affordable portable PC.  Although web browsing functions are limited, it is still better than nothing and is quite lightweight and reasonably priced.  Although it is not as cheap as a fountain pen it is still pretty good.  Keep in mind when making your purchase that if you have the newer DSi you will need a different adaptor to the R4, which only works with the DS and DS Lite.  DS machines are touch-screen systems.  Certain games encourage you to use your fingers directly on the screen, although this may reduce its life expectancy.  The device always comes with a “stylus” which is a little wand like you use with a PDA to touch the screen.

Using the wand is recommended.  Whatever you do, don’t go pressing all over the screen with a ball point pen or a fountain pen or any kind of pen for that matter as it is a sure fire way to mess up your screen quickly.  It can be tempting, since pens are often at hand, but in the long run it is not a good idea.  R4 adaptors have improved since they were first released in 2007 as well.  It is often not a good idea to buy a newly released product, particularly electronics, cars and pens, as the little quirks have not been worked out yet.  Initially there were some problems with the spring loading mechanism for the micro SD card but those have been fixed now by changing the design.  Some companies sell the adaptor with the software already installed and tested.  This makes your R4 purchase entirely hassle free, and is a good option to look for.  Regardless, this device is cheap, easy to use and incredibly useful; so go out and pick one up today.
